Quotes From The Jewish Book of Why

Sunday 20171126

I decided it would be fun to quote some facts from The Jewish book of Why.

POSTURE AND PRAYER

Why are different types of Kaddish recited?

The original form of the Kaddish

, rrecited after a sermon or at the conclusion of a study period, contained a paragraph beginning the words Al Yisrael, "for the sake of Israel," wich is a prayer for the welfare of scholars. In the early Middle Ages (about the year 1000), this paragraph was omitted and the remaining text became what is known today as the Mourner's Kaddish.
